Weekend in Germany - Cologne - Dom and Dinner

We took some time during our visit to Cologne to go inside the Dom.  The interior is nearly as impressive as the exterior although very difficult to capture on film.  The scale of the vaulted ceilings was awe inspiring.
A busy nativity scene graced a corner of the church.
We emerged once more and admired the statues around the entrance.
We wandered up to the Heumarkt Christmas Market (market #5 for us in Cologne).  I couldn't resist when I smelled roasting chestnuts and treated myself to a paper cone full.
Fortunately, I saved some room for supper because our next stop was Gilden im Zims, a popular brew house.
We couldn't believe the portion sizes when they brought us our food.  We barely put a dent in this pork knuckle.
The potato pancakes were falling off the plate.  We tried our Reibekuchen with a black beet-based molasses syrup this time instead of apple sauce.  It was sticky sweet and delicious.
Of course, we washed down the food with Kölsch.  We managed to rack up a tab for 6 small (200 mL) beers between us.  No worries though because they sell for about 150 each.
On the way back to our hotel, we took time to appreciate some facets of Cologne bathed in the spotlight including these faces and figures carved in wood.
The Heumarkt Christmas Market was still in full swing.
We walked along the Rhine and said goodnight to the Dom and other stately buildings after a jam-packed day of holiday fun.
