Málaga - A Beach Walk in Torremolinos

Torremolinos is a popular seaside town on the Costa del Sol not far from Málaga, Spain.  It's easily accessible by the local train.  We emerged from the train station to blue skies and bubbling fountains.
The main shopping strip in town was all decked out for the holidays.  It was actually a bit challenging to orient ourselves and figure out which direction to walk to the beach.  We had fun getting a bit lost and exploring the town.
We finally stumbled upon a viewpoint to the sea below and realized that we needed to head down, down down...
Before undertaking the trek, we decided to stop for a quick beer at a sidewalk cafe.  I love people watching and smiled when I saw this lady in a fur coat, arm-in-arm with her husband headed to the beach.
We wound our way through town and found some signs and a staircase pointing to the beach.  We admired the architecture along the way.
We spotted this lovely orange tabby cat chasing an ant on the way down.
Colorful flowers contrasted beautifully with the white walls of the buildings nearby.
Admittedly, Torremolinos is a bit touristy.  We were happy to be staying in Málaga City but a day trip was still a fun outing.
We walked along the waterfront and admired this statue of two ladies running in joy.
The beach gear was mostly gathering dust for the winter but I would love to come back in summer and rent this pink flamingo ;-)
We spotted a 'forest' of palm trees along the beach.
Restaurants dot the waterfront selling char-grilled sardines and more over an open flame.
We sat down on the patio at Casa Antonio for a spot of lunch.
The atmosphere was inviting and relaxing.
We ordered two amazingly fresh fish entrees.
We even made a new friend in the process - this dog looking for handouts.
After lunch, we continued our stroll along the beach.
The day was so lovely that we set our sights on Benalmádena, the next town over.
The sea was a brilliant blue.
We spotted cats taking a siesta along the promenade.
Sleep tight little kitty.
This cat was very much awake and seemed to be scanning the beach like a lifeguard.
Every so often, we'd emerged into a strip of shops and restaurants decorated with some spiffy sculptures.
In addition, gorgeous orange flowers that looked like firecrackers spilled down from a retaining wall.
We nearly had the place to ourselves, one of the benefits of going in the off-season.
As we neared Benalmádena, we stopped for a rest and I noticed this restaurant:  Larry.  This is possibly the most unlikely name for a Spanish restaurant that I can think of.  I just had to smile.
Even though our feet were getting tired from the significant walk between towns, we took the opportunity to walk along the Benalmádena Harbour.
Note, Benalmádena is not super-close to a train station, particularly when you've already been walking for an hour plus.  Still, we soldiered on...uphill...to the closest train station.
We were rewarded for our efforts when we spotted this tree full of parrots. We stopped to watch them for a good 10 minutes before making the final push to the train station and back to Málaga City.
