Take a magical walk on the North Face Trail in Murren. Explore the Mürren North Face Trail on a bucket list trip to Switzerland.
The North Face Trail is a famous hiking route located in the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps.
We decided to take a walk on the North Face Trail in Mürren. After our trip to the top of the Schilthorn, we walked across town to the funicular and rode up to Allmendhubel.
At the top, we were impressed by views of the Eiger and Munch peaks.
We took a brief walk around Allmendhubel on the Wildflower Trail. We were impressed at the time, but later realized that the wildflowers are even more plentiful and spectacular along the Northface Trail. If you're in the area and up for a longer walk, I'd recommend skipping the Wildflower Trail.
Soon we reached a cross-roads and took off on the North Face Trail.
The North Face Trail wound up and down the countryside and boasted amazing views.
We passed a burbling brook and stopped for a quick rest.
Cows with giant cowbells clanging dotted the landscape. How's this for an amazing playground?! I wish I'd had that view when I was a kid.
We walked underneath the cable car line to Schilthorn. It's incredible how thin of a thread the cars tread on.The trail itself was marked by white and red lines so it was easy to follow and not get lost.
At another crossroads, we continued our journey on the Northface Trail.
We soon spotted a Swiss flag waving in the breeze.
As we drew closer, I was so excited to spot a cow parked underneath! I was even able to get close enough to give him a pat on the back.
We sat underneath eaves covered with cowbells.
We tasted ice cream made fresh on the farm. Only later we realized that we'd ordered 'to go' portions when we saw huge ice cream sundaes covered in fresh cream being delivered to other North Face Trail hikers. Ours was delicious and we saved ourselves a multitude of calories.
Continuing on, we saw the cable car whiz by in the distance.
We descended into a valley with a stream rolling through.
We came upon another farm and cows with bells tinkling. The sound of the cowbells in the mountains is magical at a distance.
Along the 4+ mile North Face trail, we spotted rusty tin roofs.
After a good 3 hours, we came nearly full circle. We could see Mürren in the distance including the train line up to Allmendhubel.
We took one last opportunity to admire the wildflowers before heading into Mürren town.
We walked through Mürren and spotted this lamppost covered with knitting!
We sat down for a beer at a local cafe with spectacular views of the mountains and a brave person parasailing.
The Munch and Jungfrau peaks stood in the distance. After a really long day of sightseeing and hiking, we boarded the cable car back to Lauterbrunnen.
I thought I'd close with a few panoramas that I took.
