Dublin Eats - Dinner at Tavern

We love trying new restaurants in Dublin and even more so when we find a great deal.  We scored an offer from TheTaste.ie for a 5 course tasting menu with a bottle of house wine at Tavern, the new restaurant at the Dylan.  At just 60 EUR for two people, this was less than half the menu price.  We settled in to a corner table in the back corner of the restaurant under a string of quirky chandeliers.

We were served a lovely bottle of Spanish Rioja.

We sipped sparkling water from finely cut crystal.

Fresh breads with a trio of spreads kicked things off.

I ordered the tomato and basil soup which was presented deconstructed and served table side.

Next up, we sampled the Irish pork plate featuring a roulade, pork belly, and black pudding.

Rump of lamb with truffle mash rounded out the savories.

The tasting menu included a Fairground dessert with candyfloss and everything.  However, we managed to talk our waitress, and through her the chef, into letting us try Tavern's signature dessert, the chocolate sphere.  A round sphere of chocolate was presented and then our waitress poured a rich, piping hot caramel sauce over it.  The chocolate melted to reveal a sweet fruit sorbet inside.  They even left the extra caramel sauce on the table.  I could have eaten it with a spoon.  So good!
