Prague - Charles Bridge and Beyond

Charles Bridge is one of the top tourist attractions in Prague...
...and it's very, very popular.
We fought our way across the throngs of people on the bridge stopping to admire the medieval sculptures (construction of the bridge began in 1357) dotting the sides.
Looking out over the Vltava, we took in sweeping views of the Old Town.
We finally made it out the other side of Charles Bridge and ducked onto Kampa Island. It was much quieter here and we could enjoy views of the city and bridge uninterrupted without having to fight for a viewing position among the crowds.
There was an art gallery on the island featuring this exhibit of neon penguins.
Boats traveling upstream used this side channel and lock to avoid the swift current and mini-falls on the Vltava.
We crossed back to the 'mainland' and stopped into Kolkovna Olympia for lunch.
This charming cafe reminded me of the cafe culture and ambiance of Vienna.
We opted to try a cornbreaded schnitzel...
...and a rich beef stew with bread dumplings.  A few spicy peppers added color and heat to the dish.
We skirted the base of the park leading up to Petrin Hill passing poignant...
...and slithery sculptures along the way.
We boarded a funicular at Újezd station (covered in the cost of our day pass on the Prague Metro).
We disembarked at the top of Petrin Hill in a lovely flower garden.
A quaint observatory stood nearby.
A statue of some sort of pilot, bedecked with flowers, stood in front of a series of sundials.
We took time to stop and smell the roses ;-)
We then passed through a forested area to emerge in front of Petrin Tower.
We wound our way from Petrin Hill toward Prague Castle.  The route offered stunning views.
Looking back, we could see how far we'd come through the forest.
We popped out near the Church of our Lady of Victory (Kostel Panny Marie Vítězné).
Our attention soon turned across the road to the breweries nearby.  We took a seat in the sun at Pivovar Strahov a restaurace Sv.Norbert
We whiled away an hour sipping local brews.
Inside, we checked out the brewing equipment and bar - great atmosphere.
With that we made our way to the tram stop and caught the #22 tram back down the hill to the city.
