Dublin - Casino Marino

Dublin's annual Open House provided the perfect excuse to hop on the DART to Clontarf and visit Casino Marino.  En route, we passed this gorgeous church tower accented by the bright blue sky not far from the station.
Casino Marino soon came into view.  It appeared deceptively small - like a single room structure.
Nearby a behemoth church and school stood in contrast.
We followed the retaining wall...
...past the Dublin Fire Brigade (and mortuary!)...
...to the entrance of Casino Marino.
Casino Marino is an 18th century 'pleasure palace' used by its owners to escape the bustle of city life.
A number of passages (now blocked off) radiated out from the Casino and were purported to lead down to the sea a fair distance away.
We went inside; the house was free to enter as part of Dublin Open House and guides were on hand to answer questions.  We admired the ornate white ceilings.
A huge sunburst radiated from the center of the ceiling on the main floor.
Some fine furnishings accented the fireplace.
The wooden floor was decorated in bold geometric patterns.
We leaned in further and caught a glimpse of riotous floral wallpaper.
A hexagram adorned the floor in the main room. No one knows exactly what it symbolised.  It could have been a Star of David, a symbol of the Free Masons, or something else entirely.
We walked upstairs and noticed a family of 'mice' living on the closed off stairway to the 3rd floor.  The house was so deceptive from the outside...One would never have guessed that it housed three distinct floors (four if you count the cellar).
A large dome anchored the main room on the 2nd floor.
We took some time to admire the structure from the outside as it was a gorgeous, sunny day in Dublin.
Stoic lions stood guard at the entrance along the four corners of the structure.
Steers' heads and other decorative features lined the eaves.
We admired this vase with lamb's head...
Once we finished our circuit of the grounds, we took one last look at the proud lion guarding the entrance and headed on our way into Clontarf.
