London Coffee Festival 2013

What great timing!  Our most recent trip to London corresponded with the London Coffee Festival.  We took the tube toward Algate East station and emerged into the sunshine where we marched past a gorgeous local church.
We proceeded to Old Truman Brewery where the event was being held.
We got there early and surveyed the lay of the land before the crowds descended on the place.
Various coffee vendors like La Cimbali and Caffe Fratelli were on hand offering delicious samples to satisfy our wildest caffeine cravings.
Various food vendors were also on hand.  For example, Green & Black's was giving out generous samples of their fine chocolate.
Amisol alfajores, ProperCorn sweet and salty popcorn, and Slim Sam's Cakery also caught our eye.
Demonstrations by renowned coffee experts were scheduled at regular intervals.
Demo stations on how to make a decent cup of coffee at home were a helpful diversion.
We made a tasty cup of joe using a filter and plunger type contraption.
There were three stations set-up in the center of the festival highlighting three coffee-makers and three bespoke coffee drinks.
The drinks were free but donations were kindly requested for the festival's charity - Project Waterfall, which brings clean drinking water to coffee producing countries in Africa.  A DJ spinning tunes at the center of the action added to the atmosphere.
I initially tried Shoreditch Grind's affogato (espresso with a scoop of ice cream).
We followed that up with a stop at Curators Coffee.
They were offering "Coffee in the Garden":  a long black served with lemon, honey, and sorrel oil paired with a honey and basil meringue.  The citrus added a delightfully refreshing element to the drink.
By now, we were wired from caffeine and full of sugar.  We made our way to the food hall where we sampled Rola Wala's Naan Bar.
We opted for coriander chicken with carrot salad and tamarind chutney.
After lunch, we spotted more fun snacks from Quibbles.
We took a break from coffee for a spot of tea from Novus.
Tickets to the London Coffee Festival were for a specific two hour time slot.  At the tail end of our session, we stopped for one last cappuccino from Matthew Algie...
...before heading out onto a much busier Brick Lane to continue our day's adventure.
The London Coffee Festival is definitely an event we'd do again.
