Great theatre can be found nearly anywhere you look in Dublin. We decided to check out Bewley's Dinner Theatre and a performance of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. We waited in taut anticipation to be invited into the dining room.
An imposing picture frame sat in the center of the room.Candle light added to the period ambiance.
We were surrounded by some of Ireland's most famous writers: Yeats, Behan, and Joyce.
We enjoyed a glass of wine with our meal.
The food itself (Beef and Guinness Stew and a rhubarb crumble) was forgettable but the performance certainly wasn't!
The principal actors mingled through the audience during the show so we totally felt like we were part of the action watching the young, impressionable Dorian Gray slip slowing into debauchery maintaining an ever youthful veneer while an extraordinary portrait showed the decline of his true character.
A cup of Bewley's finest rounded out the night. Bravo to an excellent performance!
