Yes We Cannes!

The beautiful thing about the French Riviera, aside from the gorgeous blue body of water confronting you at every turn, is the number of easily accessible towns to visit.  We took the train from Nice to Cannes, I donned my biggest diva sunglasses, and we set out to explore the city of movie festival fame.

Our first stop was Jean-Luc Pelé for macarons.
We followed a star-studded path...
...past one of many movie theatres.
The back streets of the old town were narrow and lined with shops.  Still, the sun managed to peek through and light our way.
We stopped for a coffee at a rather unlikely place -- a kiosk in a small park near the bus station.
We looked up the hill toward a beautiful old clock tower.
We continued our amble to Le Marché Forville; Cannes' Farmers Market.
Gorgeous fruits and veggies were on offer.  We picked up some oranges and a huge bag of walnuts in the shell.
Moving on, we passed the type of store I expected to see more of in Cannes - one selling salmon and caviar; only the finest for Cannes residents!
We started to ascend a hill through the winding streets of the old town.
We spotted another working fountain near the top of the hill.
I spotted a likeness of that fountain on a nearby mural.
We spotted a cobbled staircase and couldn't resist.  We ascended just to see where we would end up.
At the top, we got a close up view of the clock tower that we'd viewed near the shore.
There was a crumbling stone platform that we climbed to enjoy sweeping views of the town and sea.
We headed down a bit through a leafy park.
We ultimately hit a dead end and turned to ascend back toward the clock tower.
We spotted a jaunty pirate painted on the side of a building in the distance.
Fun country accents adorned the residences in the old town.
We descended back to water level and admired the mural on the side of the bus station.
The buses in Cannes were adorably small.
Next-up, we stopped for lunch at Le Relais de Semailles.
We were lured in by the daily menu which featured 3 courses and a glass of wine for less than 25 euro per person.  The meal started with fresh rolls.
The bread didn't last long!
The white wine tasted a bit like Riesling.
Our first course involved mushroom ravioli topped with a milky emulsion.  So good.
For our mains, we tried cod...
...and lovely sliced duck.
I always marvel at utensils I don't see everyday.  Our place setting had what I think was some kind of fish fork/spoon.  I need to look up a video on how to use it properly.  The waiters were probably laughing at us in the background.
For dessert, I tried an amazing and light souffle, served perfect from the oven.
My husband tried a decadent chocolate cake.
Full sated, we made our way back toward the water and took a spin through the local antiques market.
I love how Cannes had a fur coat vendor at the antiques market -- very swank.
Everything from lampshades to figurines to jewelry was on offer.
I caught a glimpse of a vintage carousel behind the jumble of stalls.
As we exited the market, we spotted a kiddie remote controlled boat track in a local fountain.
I then tried out my red carpet swagger outside the convention center where the film festival is hosted each year...
We took a long walk along the waterside promenade.  I loved these prancy dogs strutting their stuff with their well-heeled owner.
The views were quite uplifting.
The promenade had chairs dotted all along it and we nabbed a couple of seats to relax and watch the water and people go by.
We continued on to the far end of the harbour toward where all the yachts are parked
The sun was beginning to sink as we checked out the boating set.
Our shadows grew longer as we walked through a park by the yacht harbor and headed back toward the train station.
I took a moment to admire the ornately decorated buildings and hotels before removing my diva sunglasses and returning to the real world of Nice.
