We've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area on and off for nearly 8 years yet we'd never been to Half Moon Bay. On a recent sunny Saturday, we decided to rectify that and set out down Highway 1. En route, we passed Gray Whale Cove State Beach and hiked down the stairs to see waves swirling and crashing on the sand.
This seagull was eyeing the snack we were eating while we balanced precariously on a rock.
I liked this white wildflower which reminder me a bit of a dendrimer from my chemistry days.At last, we arrived in Half Moon Bay.
We pulled up next to this surfer scene on the side of a building on the main drag through town.
I also liked this mosaic on another building nearby.
We stopped into the Moonside Bakery and Cafe to admire the kitsch...
...and partake of the town's signature cookies.
We continued our stroll past this small church that looked like it was transported intact from 1950s small town America.
We also saw the old jail which had been turned into the Spanishtown Historical Society Museum.
We passed even more colorful art...
We were quickly lured in by the Half Moon Bay Wine & Cheese Company.
They offered an extensive menu of wines to taste or try by the glass.
I loved the presentation: Erlenmeyer Flask alongside a traditional wine glass.Moving on, we passed another blast from the past with this ruby red car complete with fins.
We saw this colorful wooden bird carving on Main Street before we veered off onto a side street.
We were delighted to find this fence exuding love...
...along with some amazing flowers.
To finish off the day, we checked out a section of the California Coastal Trail nearby.
The area was bathed in fog but we could still see some amazing wildflowers along the trail.
We also took in this rather creatively decorated cottage before hopping in the car and heading for dinner in Princeton-by-the-Sea.
