Street Performance World Championship 2011 - Dublin

Dublin's Merrion Square played host to the Street Performance World Championship this weekend.  We were excited to see slight-of-hand, death defying stunts, and side splitting humor.  We weren't disappointed!  This sign says it all: Smiles must be worn at all times in this area.
We started by watching a performance from magician Jardu.  He made balls and jewelry disappear and did a bit of faux snake charming.

For his finale, we watched as he swallowed a long sword.
We paused to stop and smell the flowers before heading to the west side of the park to see Wacky Chad.
He did an impressive job juggling from an extra-tall unicycle while carrying on some self-deprecating banter.

The next performance we saw was Funny Bones, my personal favorite of the day.  Funny Bones did an eclectic mix of mime, magic, breakdancing, and puppetry.  It was a particularly imaginative performance.  You never knew what they would pull from their suitcases next!  I liked how they turned a roll of masking tape into a dance partner!
Funny Bones took puppetry to a new level with life-sized zombie puppets.
After the show (as with all the performers), a hat was passed to tip and show appreciation for an afternoon of fun.
Here are a few more fun moments from the Funny Bones performance.

We'd worked up an appetite so it's a good thing there were plenty of food vendors on site.  We enjoyed a German pretzel complete with nuts, seeds, and cheese baked in.
Refreshed, we moved on to see Lindsay Benner.  Lindsay combined juggling with theatrical storytelling and copious audience participation.  Titled The Book of Love, Lindsay acted out the stages of a relationship from
'Catching Mr. Right' to the 'First Date' to 'Falling in Love' to 'Turning up the Heat'.  At each stage she tried to impress her man with feats of daring.
The show culminated in juggling with fire atop a tower of men.
Very entertaining...  Here are some additional tidbits from the performance.

Thanks to the organizers for putting on this event and making so many people smile.  We'll be back tomorrow to compete in the final 'Where's Wally' World Record Attempt.  Stay tuned...
