Weekend in Berlin - ITB - A Traveler's Paradise

Messe Berlin, the venue for ITB Berlin was a good walk west from Charlottenburg.  We enjoyed looking at the grand houses on some of the side streets along the way.
This framed bit of graffiti reminded me of a work that Joan Miró may have painted.
Some of the buildings made creative use of concrete and color.
For others, you had to look more closely to see something eye catching or humorous.
Messe Berlin is near a lake that looks a bit out of place in the city but was a tranquil getaway spot for locals taking a stroll or jog.
We finally arrived at the Convention Center and admired the Funkturm in the distance.  The Funkturm looks an awful lot like the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
We took our time exploring hall after hall of travel destinations.  There were representatives from all over the world, but we focused in on Europe given our limited time to explore.  Poland brought a huge contingent and even had a traditional musician playing.
Hungary was baking up some traditional cinnamon pastry treats.  Apparently it's called Kürtős kalács and is commonly served at outdoor events and festivals.
The home team, Germany, also had a major presence.
One of our favorite exhibitors was Samos in the Greek Islands.  They lured us in with the promise of free wine samples and then wowed us with information on what the island had to offer -- from ancient history, to pristine beaches, to friendly residents.  We chatted with the guy for so long that he gave each of us a small bottle of dessert wine to take home with us -- now that's hospitality!
Here are some more random scenes from ITB including the Bulgaria exhibit, DB Bahn trains, an 8 foot tall monk, Ireland, and the African hall.
After the show, we walked along the Spree River and stopped at a lovely beer garden to relax and look over the brochures we'd acquired.  We were slightly concerned when we booked tickets to the ITB that there would be no material available in English.  However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that most everyone spoke English and had at least one English language brochure on hand.  We had plenty of reading material to enjoy with our beer.
Evening soon fell and we walked toward the main train station Hauptbahnhof.
There was a strange display of wax sculptures in the station.
We capped our day with a meal at Black and White in Charlottenburg including traditional Turkish soups, bread, and a plate of shaved meats.  We'd definitely worked up an appetite after walking around all day and considering the travel possibilities.
