Weekend in Paris - Day 3 - From the Bastille to Eiffel Tower

Our final day in Paris was the most epic adventure yet.  We covered more than 9 miles from Bastille to the Eiffel Tower.

One of the first things I noticed was that gas stations are a bit different in Paris.  Drivers pull up curbside to refuel.  It seems to be a pretty efficient use of crowded city spaces.
We walked through the Marais district including Place des Vosges.
We noticed little Space Invaders painted onto various buildings around the city.  We never figured out what it was about but in a city like Paris is seemed totally random and unexpected.
The charm of Marais was in the details -- like these hooks formed into decorative busts.
Lovely parks crop up everywhere.  I liked Square George Cain.
We walked along the Seine.  I smiled when I saw this older gentleman walking his well-coiffed pooch.
We walked past Notre Dame once more en route to Sainte-Chapelle.
The interior of Sainte-Chappelle featured rich colors and stunning stained glass.
Sainte-Chappelle shares a fenced courtyard with the Palais de Justice.
We crossed over to the Left Bank down Boulevard Saint-Michel.
We stopped into a local grocery store and I was impressed by the range of chocolate cereal on offer.
We walked past the hallowed buildings of the Sorbonne.
A little comic relief awaited us in the form of a painting on the side of a nearby building.  A donkey throws a man while an innocent kitty looks on.
We stopped for lunch at a Tunisian Restaurant called Chez Jaafar.
We enjoyed a meal of couscous with chicken served with vegetables in broth.  Delicious!
Our next stop was the Pantheon Paris.  It is breathtaking both inside and out.  Built originally as a church, it is now a famous burial place in Paris.
Below ground, dignitaries such as Marie and Pierre Curie are interred.
We left the Pantheon and could see the Eiffel Tower off in the distance.
I was impressed by this wine shop brave enough to store double magnum bottles of wine on the street.
More Space Invaders!  They had invaded the Left Bank.
We paused for a rest and a snack near the Esplanade des Invalides.
The Eiffel Tower was getting closer and closer!

l'Hôtel National des Invalides was impressive as the sun began to set.

We walked down pedestrianized Rue Cler and stopped for a sweet treat at chocolatier À la mère de famille.
We rounded a corner and beheld the Eiffel Tower!
We walked underneath it and across the Seine to view the landmark another vantage point.
We finished our walk at the Jardins du Trocadéro and bid farewell to a fine three day weekend in Paris.  We'll most definitely be back!
