Sydney - Market Saturday

Time flies when you're having fun and before I knew it, it was the weekend again -- time to explore more of Sydney's fun neighborhoods.  I saw this multi-cultural mural on a building downtown.
I decided to catch a bus to Balmain to check out one of the lesser known weekend markets.  I had a considerable wait for the bus and decided to wander into the Queen Victoria Building.  The interior was graced with rich colors, impressive vaulted ceilings, and a huge clock.

I soon arrived in Balmain and took a stroll among the wares laid out near St. Andrew's Church.

I took a walk through this section of town and was impressed by one of the local civic buildings...
...and the fire station.
I also chanced upon an adorable model tugboat parked outside.
Apparently the cupcake craze has also hit Australia.  I popped in to The Cupcake Factory for a sweet treat to takeaway.
I continued on my way and admired the decorations on the Balmain Village Cellars building nearby.
I decided to stop for a rest in Gladstone Park.
My jam-filled cupcake was outstanding!
I also walked by the London Hotel.  Known for its fabulous view of the Harbour Bridge, the porch was lined with people having a pint on a gorgeous afternoon.
I turned off the beaten path and chanced upon an open gate near an old church.  I couldn't resist and walked up the stairs.
In doing so, I got to enjoy a lovely view of the Anzac Bridge.
I intended to head back to Darling Harbour but was sidetracked along the way when I passed Rozelle Public School on the bus.
On a whim, I hopped off the bus and checked out the bustling Rozelle Markets.  I love a market where you can find both leather pants and leopard print boots (see album below)!
I got back on the bus and jumped off again spontaneously at the Glebe Public School -- another Saturday market was in full swing!
I loved this labryrinth of frames.
Glebe Markets also introduced me tGözleme, a grilled dough of Turkish origin filled with cheese, spinach, and herbs.  It was incredible with a drizzle of lemon on top.

I found a lovely brown beaded necklace for only five dollars.  I've gotten many compliments on it since I've gotten home.  Who knew?
I continued on foot down Glebe Point Road.  I was intrigued by these plaster angels that seemed to be listening to an old-timey radio on top of Badde Manors Cafe.
I walked right onto the University of Sydney campus.  The architecture was incredibly stately.
I timed my visit just right and was treated to a performance on the carillon.
There were also some beautiful flowers in bloom and slightly sinister fountain.

I also came across a really cool hall of sanctioned graffiti smack in the middle of campus.
On the far side of campus near the athletic field, I saw this warrior cradling a lion.
I exited campus in Newtown, another hip neighborhood.
One of my colleagues recommended that I check out the Camperdown Memorial Rest Park.  On my way, I saw this quaint residence tagged with some outlandish decorations.

The Camperdown Memorial Rest Park was a cemetery surrounded by high walls.  The outside walls were covered in interesting graffiti.
The sky looked ominous and so I headed back to King St. for a quick snack break.
I chanced upon Soni's in Newtown and stopped for a glass of wine.

Once again, I managed to make the most of my limited time in Australia and covered about 5 miles on foot.
