Marketing and More

I awoke to a chilly, wet day in San Francisco.  Someone clearly got a little too optimistic about the balmy weather we've been having lately and threw their space heater out a day too soon.

While waiting for the bus, I saw people working out across the street at Fitness Anywhere.  People sort of grab on to these bungee cords and do all sorts of crazy stretching and jumping exercises.  It's fun to watch.

I stopped at the Rincon Center to mail a package.  The Post Office here opens at 7 am and there was no line -- Score!  They have a beautiful fountain inside the complex with the water coming down from the ceiling several stories up.

They also have stylized artwork on various balconies around the center courtyard.  The scenes seem to represent different types of work -- office work, construction, etc.

I stopped for a latte at Cecil's Cafe in the Rincon Center.  They were value priced compared to other options in the area (less than $3 for a large latte) and the beverage they served was of high quality and even had a little heart shaped flourish in the foam.  I definitely recommend Cecil's.  The restaurant actually smelled like roasting peppers when I walked in.  You can see why...  I've never seen bell peppers in a toaster oven before.

The workday passed in a blur and before I knew it, I was on my way to the American Marketing Association, San Francisco Chapter meeting.  I'm not a marketer by vocation but I was interested in the topic:  "The Future of Social Networks and Where We Are Now" presented by Charlene Li.  The talk was held at Adaptive Path and was fascinating.

Even more fascinating were the items of office flair that I saw on my way to the venue...

... and this sidewalk quote by Edward Beale:  "Men are very fond of proving their steadfast adherence to nonsense".
...and Lucky 21 written on the hood of a beat up old van.

After the meeting, I was basking in the excitement of winning a raffle prize!  I won a bottle of Irish Whiskey.  I'm not really a hard liquor drinker but at least I was able to confirm my suspicion that marketers truly know how to party.  On the way home, I passed ArtHaus and was impressed by the display on the door.

Having just come from a marketing meeting, this sign struck me:  why would you name a office/shopping complex "Hippo Square"?  I think something a little more distinguished and professional would have been more appropriate.

Last but not least, I saw this beautiful drawing in the lobby of a building in Pacific Heights.  I must have walked past this building 50 times in my travels about the City but this is the first time I actually noticed it.  Stunning!
