The advice I got at the Don Edwards National Wildlife Reserve in Fremont was spot on. Alviso was an idyllic spot for a walk and a bit of birdwatching near San Jose.I set out along a short trail relatively close to the parking lot. American avocets were nesting here in the far reaches of the San Francisco Bay.
The avocets were easily spotted from the convenient boardwalk that zigzagged through the estuary.
Aside from the birds, the area was also worth visiting for its unique landscapes.
In total, I spent about an hour wandering around the wetlands at Alviso as it was getting late in the afternoon. I could have easily spent more time there but the sun was starting to fade. As I was driving away from the reserve, I spotted these Canadian Geese and their chick crossing the road which made me smile one more time.
