We recently planned a trip by train to Kilkenny for the Kilkenny Roots Festival. We noted on our itinerary that we would have to change trains in Athy. That was a bit strange...normally it's straight through. We soon learned that due to track works we'd be taking a bus to Athy and then catching the train the rest of the way. I'm of the opinion that we should always look at detours as an opportunity rather than a nuisance.
The bus arrived early so we had about 30 minutes to poke around Athy. We definitely made the most of it. We did a lap around People's Park across the street from the train station.
I smiled when I saw this lovely blue park bench in the shadow of an enormous green tree.
