London - Back to Brick Lane

On our return from Oxford to London, we were reminiscing about the fun and fantastic energy on Brick Lane.  We decided to do a reprise of our visit last year and head in that direction for a few hours before our flight back to Dublin.  En route, we could see 'The Gherkin' peeking out from between older, more run down buildings.

Our first priority was getting something to eat.  We were talked into Brick Lane Brasserie (surprisingly, an Indian restaurant) by a fast talking lad at the door.  They were offering a starter, main, and rice or naan for just 7.95 GBP.  Great value...  Of course, the deal was set to expire in about 15 minutes so we had to act fast.
We rewarded his good salesmanship and were ushered in to a table by the window looking out over Brick Lane.
Deep fried cauliflower and nut cake started things off.
A huge portion of naan and heaping bowl of rice were brought to the table anticipating the arrival of our mains.
Two steaming bowls of spicy curry helped to fortify us on the chilly, drizzly afternoon.
Stomachs full, we continued our walk down Brick Lane passing a myriad of street art.
We passed Truman Brewery where the London Coffee Festival is held each year.
We popped into one of the Sunday markets and treated ourselves to a lemon whoopie pie.
Further on, we saw signs of gentrification in the neighborhood in the form of a truffle shop.  The truffles looked amazing but we just couldn't have squeezed anything else in at that point after our big lunch.
Actually, maybe we did have room for one more thing ;-)  On our last trip, we noticed a huge queue outside Beigel Bake.  We are connoisseurs of New York bagels and were curious to try some in London.
The price was right at half a dozen for 1.50 GBP.  The beigels themselves were chewy, soft, eggy, and a little bit sweet.  They were totally different from what you'd get in New York but quite delicious nonetheless.  We took home several to pop into the freezer and have been pulling them out to enjoy periodically.

We finished our stroll around Brick Lane near Truman Brewery and spotted a different kind of street art.  This time, it was all three dimensional and looked like a Sci-Fi movie had descended on the neighborhood.
We can't wait to come back and visit again.  There is always so much going on on Brick Lane that you never know what you'll find...definitely a feast for the senses.
