Temple Bar TradFest is simply one of the highlights of our cultural calendar in Dublin. For about a week in January, it's possible to escape into the inside of a pub or other striking performance venues like Dublin City Hall and the Pepper Canister Church to see high quality Irish traditional music and related styles. We caught a variety of performances this year including Melo-M, a Latvian cello trio that simply brought down the house inside the dramatic Dublin City Hall. Melo-M is famous for their renditions of songs like The Final Countdown and Ghostbusters. I positively loved these guys. They had such amazing energy! Pure joy. They even did a couple numbers with Irish Trad great John Sheahan.
I couldn't resist capturing a few photos of the venue itself.
We managed to squeeze ourselves into the bar at the Morgan Hotel to see Baile An Salsa perform songs with a Latin beat.Bellowhead, an English (what?!) Trad band at the Button Factory. These guys were super entertaining and high energy.
Another great thing about the Temple Bar TradFest is that you can sometimes see well-known bands for free. We had a chance to see The Fureys play at Farrington's Pub. The place was packed but the performance was worth packing in like sardines.June Tabor, an English Folk Singer and her trio play at the Pepper Canister Church. Sponsored by the National Concert Hall, we were treated to 2 sets of haunting melodies.
