At this season's Dublin Theatre Festival, we saw a play possibly more suited for the Fringe. The Critic began at The Culture Box in Temple Bar.
We stepped back in time to the 1700s as we entered the sitting room of a married couple, one of whom was a well-known theatre critic. Various over-the-top characters passed through and we quickly learned of a production in the works nearby.
Midway through the show, we paraded through the streets of Temple Bar to The Ark and settled into the bleachers where the Rough Magic crew recreated the production discussed in Act 1.
It was a creative and imaginative performance that fused both a historical setting with modern materials and media in Act 2. We also appreciated the opportunity to visit the colorful Ark. With this production, we were able to add two new venues to our list in the quest to visit all the theatres in Dublin.
