We drove ourselves to 96 Winery Road Restaurant to sample some of the Stellenbosch region's fine dining. We were seated in a cavernous room lined with South African wine bottles.
Some beautiful and colorful paintings of the local townships lined the wall above our table.
A richly colored woven circle served as a place mat.
We were presented with a variety of cuts of meat that were on offer.
We also tried the Hollandse Pepper Fillet which was flamed tableside and smothered in a peppercorn sauce.
A cute basket of chips rounded out the meal.
We couldn't believe the amazing value-for-money of the meal. The steak was priced at R135 (about $14) but as we were visiting on a Thursday, the steak was half price! Bellies full, we made our way out into the night and back to our guest house.
