We were in Nicosia last year for my brother's engagement party. We were back again for the wedding and were really looking forward to it. Before the festivities began, we had some time to reacquaint ourselves with Nicosia on foot. We spotted this fig tree in the heart of the old town.
On our way back to our hotel (the ever conveniently located Classic Hotel), we passed Holy Cross Catholic Church. The building actually straddles the Green Line separating Cypriot Nicosia from the Turkish-occupied north. When the capital was divided, the church was allowed to remain open as long as the back door leading into the occupied zone was permanently locked.
We did a quick detour through the sun-bleached streets of the old town before calling it a day and ducking inside out of the beating sun.
