We hired a taxi to take us to the upper entrance to Ephesus, a remarkably preserved Greek and subsequently Roman city situated in modern day Turkey. We were impressed by dramatic theatres and applauded as a tourist took a turn singing opera on the ancient stage.
We passed remnants of columns along a once grand thoroughfare. We could see the famous library at Ephesus in the distance.
The intricate decorations on the columns and arches were particularly impressive given their age.
We paid extra to tour the excavation of Roman terrace houses.
We continued on down the thoroughfare.
An Italian duo took a turn trying out the acoustics.
We walked off toward the lower entrance to Ephesus impressed by the more than 2000 years of history captured in this location.
The ruins were very impressive as this slide show will attest.
