Our ferry up the Bosphorus dropped us at Andolu Kavagi where we spent a relaxing afternoon.
Quaint houses and boats lined the waterfront.Even the ducks came out to greet us!
We walked down the pier and disappeared into the town.
We passed aging hulls of rowboats.
Andolu Kavagi features an abandoned castle (Yoros Castle) at the top of a large hill and promised sweeping views of the area. We set our sights there. En route, we passed donkeys and wild dogs.
The views were indeed grand as we made our way up the steep hill.
We soon spotted crumbling stone structures.
We continued our climb and looked out across the Bosphorus.
We'd come a long way from the shoreline below!
We tackled the seemingly endless staircases to reach the top.
Yoros Castle did not disappoint.
Various stray dogs put on a show for the tourists -- especially those they'd sized up and thought likely had food.
This dog really mugged for the camera!
We took one last look across the landscape and descended back to town.
Turkey definitely has issues with the stray pet population. Here we see a pack of dogs and cats sunning themselves on the road into town.We walked past a number of touts who tried to lure us into their restaurant by offering discounts and little extras (eg: free coffee). We settled on the Gold Fish Restaurant and took a seat along the water.
We could see jellyfish floating by.
We enjoyed the view from all sides.A nearby minaret played the midday call to prayer while we dined.
A couple of bees dropped into a beer glass at a neighboring table and emerged drunk!
We dined on mezzes (giant beans and spicy tomato sauce)...
...and the biggest plate of fried fish I'd ever seen!
Somehow we managed to polish off most of the fish as a hopeful cat looked on.
We finished our hearty meal with a nice cup of tea served in a signature curvaceous glass.
The sun was starting to set so we headed back to the dock to catch our ferry back to Istanbul.
