Izmir sits along the Aegean Sea. We walked through the Izmir Bazaar toward the seaside promenade.
We passed a small and lovely mosque sitting close to the shore.Passing through the palm-lined square, we ran a gauntlet of pigeons.
We walked down a sail covered passageway and arrived at the shore.
We sat among the rocks and admired the peaceful view.
The promenade seemed to go on for miles. We walked past an upscale shopping mall and took a detour inside.
We passed boats small and large.
The black and white path seemed to undulate like the sea itself.
We spotted classic and modern sculpture along the shore.
Friends walked arm and arm along the path.
Another stray dog vied for our attention.
We continued our walk along the promenade toward the cruise ship terminal.
An Italian vessel was in port that day. It was interesting to watch how people addressed us before hearing us speak. Some tried English at first. When we ignored them, they tried their greeting in Italian and German. We were won over by a shoe shine tout who offered to clean the dust off our shoes for just a few Turkish Lira.
Shiny shoes and all, we soon reached the cruise port.
Turning back, the sun began to set and we decided to sit down and watch the sun go down on a lovely day in Izmir.
