As the sun began to set in the late afternoon we found ourselves alongside the Bosphorus staring up at the Ahi Ahmet Celebi Cami.
Turning toward the Bosphorus, we couldn't believe the number of fishermen casting their lines into the water! They stood along the bank and elbow-to-elbow on the Galata Bridge between Sultanahmet and Beyoğlu in Istanbul.
We walked across the bridge and enjoyed the view which was occasionally obscured by someone hauling in a fish.
We walked past the entrance to Tunel -- an old style tram that leads to the top of Beyoğlu.
We opted to walk instead to work off some of the treats we'd indulged in throughout the day.
We soon reached Galata Tower which reached toward the sky.
We enjoyed some chickpeas in the shadow of the tower while resting our legs after the long uphill walk.
We continued on toward İstiklal Caddesi past colorful fruit markets...
...art and graffiti...
...before arriving at the head of İstiklal Caddesi, one of Istanbul's main shopping thoroughfares.
